One of the things I want to do with this blog is document and share my journey as a writer. I am writing my first book, and damn if it isn't a slow process. Mostly because my life is ridiculously crazy right now, and I just don't have time to do everything. I keep saying that I am going to manage my time better, but that is a post for another day.
I am in a writing accountability group through Jenna Avery. Jenna has a fantastic program where you track your progress, and the group helps you with your accountability, which is probably one of the hardest parts of writing. Unless you already have a book deal, no one really cares if you write or not. Ya know?
Anyway, Jenna has a lot of great stuff in her program, and it is all really inspiring and supportive. Last week she blogged about finding a mentor, and how to know if you are ready for one. I had asked about finding a mentor at our last month's check-in. I really want a mentor. Mainly because I feel like I am floundering around a bit. However, after reading her post I am not so sure I am ready for one.
What I realized is that I really need to define what I want from a mentor. Just wanting someone to hold my hand doesn't really work. I need to outline what my expectations and needs are. This was a fantastic realization because I can now let go of this ill-defined fantasy I have in my head. I don't know what I want right now, and I certainly don't know what I need. This is all part of figuring it out as I go along. Yes it is hard, and kind of scary. I am having fun though. =)
