Just finished watching the last four episodes of The Walking Dead season two. Hmmm, not sure what I think. I loved season one of this show. I then read that some people were less and less impressed by the end of season one. I didn't feel that way, and was really excited for season two. Then season two hit a serious sophomore slump. I liked some of the stuff they did, but a lot of it was slow and redundant. Add the fact that Shane became so annoying to me that I could barely look at him. Then the fall finale happened, and I was sparked with a tinge of hope.
So, the back half was a bit better, but I found myself doing the same thing I did with Glee. Episode to episode I was thinking, should I watch season three or not? I had watched the third season premiere of Glee, and decided that I didn't want to pay to watch it. (I'll explain below.) Now I am wondering the same thing about The Walking Dead. The thing is, like they did with season two, they have set up season three to be completely different from the previous seasons. This gives me hope that they may pull out of it.
While watching the last four episodes it occurred to me what was bothering me about this show. They don't know how to balance action and drama. It seemed like season one had more action or thrills, and there seemed to be WAY to much talking in season two. Not that talking is bad mind you. I mean, I loved Deadwood, and that was all people wandering around and talking. With The Walking Dead though it seamed like they just kept rehashing the same issues over and over again. The bright side is that they resolved a lot of said issues, and have really wiped the slate clean for season three. I will watch the premiere like I did with Glee, and see how I feel about what they do. It really can go either way at this point.
I'll explain what I meant by "pay for it". I haven't had cable for about five years now. I pay per view my TV. I have a Roku box, and purchase the shows I want to watch. I love not having commercials. It has really worked well for me. I only buy the shows I can't wait to watch, and then watch everything else on Netflix. I don't miss cable at all. =)
