Following your bliss is not self-indulgent, but vital; your whole physical system knows that this is the way to be alive in this world and the way to give to the world the very best that you have to offer. There IS a track just waiting for each of us and once on it, doors will open that were not open before and would not open for anyone else. - Joseph Campell

Updated 2011 Concert Recap

Updated:  I am reposting this because I missed one very important concert. Unforgiveable.

Tonight I am going to my first concert of the year. It was funny because I was kind of bummed out that I didn't have any concerts to look forward to, and then all of a sudden all these concerts fell out of the sky. I have at least one concert a month through April. Too much fun.

I thought that I would do a recap of the concerts that I went to last year. It was a pretty dry winter and spring, but then I ended up going to a bunch in August.

Tina Dico - 2/6

I didn't have Tina on my calendar, so I missed it when I initially did this. I thought I saw her in 2010, but Juli reminded me that it was 2011. I had to update this to include one of my top 5 favourite artists. I am so happy to say that I've been able to see Tina twice, which blows my mind. I love her so much. Both times I saw her at the Triple Door, which is my first choice of venues. I hope that I will be able to see her again someday.

On the Run wins with 105 plays.

Sarah Jarosz - 6/12

Sarah put on a great show. I got to go to a venue I hadn't been to before, The Tractor Tavern, which was a fun place. For being just a kid she's an amazing musician. She's 20 now, but she put her first album out when she was still in high school. My favorite track is Come Around, which is one of my favorite tracks for all of last year. Since I am apparently confessing my play counts, Come Around has 33, seems kind of low.

Amos Lee & Calexico - 8/13

I blogged about this show. Got to see Amos finally!! I wasn't going to let that boy get by me again. It was an amazing show out at St. Michele winery. A beautiful night, with a beautiful sunset. I saw Jamie Cullum there the year before. I am excited to see who is going to be playing there next summer. (Boy, I have spring fever bad!!)

I also was so excited that Calexico opened for Amos. That was a sweet surprise.

My favorite Amos track is Won't Let Me Go. I just checked and my play count is exactly 90. Um, yeah.

Sade & John Legend - 8/14

Blogged about this one too. Got to see Sade at the Key, hadn't been there in a while. The seats I got were crap. The show was good though. She did all my favourite songs. Such bliss hearing favourite song after favourite song. Also have to say that I never fully appreciated John Legend's sexiness until seeing him live. He does this little hip thing . . . Lordy!!

It is really hard to pick a favourite Sade song, but I just checked and I guess Soldier of Love wins with 141 plays. Dude!!

Sia - 8/17

Got to see Sia at the ShowBox. It was a week night, and I was really tired. She didn't take the stage until really late, and confess I didn't stay for the whole show. The only time I have ever left early. I had parked in a lot that closed at 11:00, and I didn't want to move it and go back in. Sia is hilarious, and that is really why I wanted to see her live. She is so funny, and talks a lot. I hear Ingrid Michaelson is the same way. I am really bummed Ingrid is playing at The Moore. I won't go back to that venue again. If she was at the Paramount I would so be there. Oh well, any way. I really enjoyed what I was able to see of Sia.

Oh Land - I came in late, and this girl was already singing away on stage. She was really good, but I didn't catch who she was. Then some months later I was on Leslie's A Room Somewhere blog, (My heart is a little broken right now, because I just saw she has decided not to blog anymore. Tragic!!) and she had posted a song by Oh Land. Turns out that's who opened for Sia. So glad that mystery is solved. =)

Just checked my counts, and it looks like Day Too Soon wins with 51 plays. It is really tough to pick one favourite of Sia's too. I really love the whole Some People Have Real Problems album.

Little Big Town - 8/22

I saw Little Big Town at the ShowBox, and it was an incredible show. I am not a country music fan, but there are a few artists that have a crossover appeal for me. I first heard LBT's Bones on the closing credits of the True Blood pilot. I fell in love at first listen. I have since added all of their albums to my collection. Their concert was really one awesome song after another. They were really amazing live.

Bones has 130 plays. Oy!!

Over the Rhine - 11/18

I only just recently discovered Over the Rhine on iTunes, and fell in love instantly. I don't have all their albums yet, they have been making music for along time. I have four so far, and Ohio is a double disc. They were everything I wanted them to be. The show was amazing. Saw them at the Triple Door, which is one of my all time favourite venues. They have the most amazing Chocolate Martini's. To die for!!

Spark wins with 48 plays.

Carmina Burana - 12/31

Blogged about this one as well. Took my Grandma to see Carmina Burana on New Years Eve. It was a really good show. Saw it at the Meydenbaur Center. Nice small venue.
