I first heard about LFDH when I read that Fitz, of Fitz and the Tantrums, had said that Daryl's mom told him he reminded her of Daryl. I didn't know about Daryl's internet show, and totally needed to check it out. Really good stuff, and since he won a Webby sounds like most people agree.
I started with the first show, which was crude and very low-fi. Then I jumped to the more recent stuff, which is directed by Robin Davey. Not only is it night and day, but Robin does a brilliant job. The show is beautifully shot.
The only thing that bothers me is when they do the wrap up, which is usually with Paul Pesco, Daryl never looks at him or whoever he sitting next to. At first I thought it was really rude, but now I wonder if it isn't just that he's not a professional on air personality. He just doesn't know how to conduct himself. It makes me really uncomfortable to watch, and totally distracts me from whatever they are say. Oh well.
What is really killing me though is not being able to buy the music. They do such fantastic arrangements, really just riffing. Daryl has a fantastic band surrounding him, and all of them are having so much fun. There are quite a few songs I want. I'll have to work on that.
Highlights so far, Fitz, Sharon Jones and Rumer. I'm making my way through the catalog. Really enjoying it.
Noelle doing a beautiful Sara Smile . . .
