Following your bliss is not self-indulgent, but vital; your whole physical system knows that this is the way to be alive in this world and the way to give to the world the very best that you have to offer. There IS a track just waiting for each of us and once on it, doors will open that were not open before and would not open for anyone else. - Joseph Campell

Cary Brothers' Ladies

I had heard Cary Brothers name (I'll confess I wasn't sure for a long time if it was a guy or two brothers LOL), but I didn't check him out until recently.  One of my favourite albums of his is Covers Vol. 1.  He has put together a really cool list of songs.  More than that though he has put together a seriously awesome group of ladies to support him on those songs.  I had albums from all the ladies, with the exception of one, Laura Jansen, and have subsequently picked up her album.  Totally a fan now.

Here's the track list:

1 - Never Tear Us Apart
2 - Maps (with Priscilla Ahn)
3 - Absolute Beginners (with Butterfly Boucher)
4 - Lessons Learned (with Rachael Yamagata)
5 - Ordinary World (with Laura Jansen)

I am telling you if nothing else Cary has great taste in music.  My favourite track is Ordinary World, which is a Duran Duran song I love.  Cary does a beautiful job with it.

I actually bought a ticket to go see Priscilla Ahn at The Triple Door, but chickened out going my myself. It isn't a venue for going solo.  I would still love to see her live.  Butterfly Boucher's Flutterby album is one of my favourites.  I will confess that I was disappointed in her follow up Scary Fragile, since I pretty much love every track of Flutterby. Rachael's Happenstance is one of those albums for me where when you hear it it always takes you back to a certain place and time.

Of course I had to check out Laura, and she is amazing.  Her song Perfect is not only my favourite song of her's, but has become one of my favourite songs period.  It is one of those songs that stops you every time it comes on, and you just have to listen.  This is a fan video from a concert, which really shows what an amazing voice she has. She hits those high notes pretty damn smoothly. I can't get there. I crackle in the car. Thank goodness no one can hear me.
